Bruchsal, Hannover Messe, 04/01/2019 • SEW EURODRIVE is unveiling a completely revamped modular encoder system consisting of built-in and mount-on encoders.
Knowing the precise position of the motor is essential for many positioning and movement tasks, which is where appropriate encoders come in. To make life as easy as possible for its customers, SEW EURODRIVE is offering its own range of built-in and mount-on encoders.
The EI8C and EI8R built-in encoders are integrated into the motor and so do not add to the length of the drive. The encoder itself features HTL and TTL interfaces, and boasts a resolution of 1024 increments. It is connected in the terminal box via the terminal strip or using an M23 plug connector on the terminal box. As the cable for the thermal sensor can also be laid as part of the encoder cable, the customer doesn't have to use a separate cable to connect the sensor. The built-in encoders can also be retrofitted to existing motors. The EI8C and EI8R do not have a separate bearing, are wear-free, shock-resistant, and designed with IP66 protection. They are available in sizes 71 to 180.
SEW EURODRIVE has also completely updated its EK8C, EK8R, EK8S, AK8W, and AK8H mount-on encoders. These are mounted onto the motor behind the fan. Alternatively, customers can also retrofit the encoders using a mount-on coupling. These mount-on encoders also feature HTL and TTL interfaces as well as an SSI or HIPERFACE® interface. They are designed as sin/cos encoders, are functionally safe, and/or can be used for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX, IECEx). Even when working with functionally safe encoders, customers can replace the unit without needing special tools. These encoders are connected using an integrated encoder plug connector that can also be assembled on site. Thanks to these new encoders, brake wear can now also be measured without having to disassemble the encoder.
They are available from June 2019 for use in motors from the DR.., DRN.., DR2S.., and DRL.. series.
