Display showcases new and future technologies for packaging, food processing

Lyman, SC – Sept. 26, 2008 – Building on its leadership in motor design and manufacturing technology, SEW-EURODRIVE is introducing a broad range of new automation solutions at PACK EXPO 2008 to enable packaging machine designers to improve productivity, respond more quickly to changing customer requirements and reduce energy use.

Show attendees will be the first to see a new generation of AC motors that can be configured to comply with all of the world’s energy efficiency standards. Completely redesigned, the new DR family of motors will replace all other AC motors in SEW’s product line in 2009. The motors use new materials and new engineering designs to lower electrical resistance and reduce energy losses in operation.

Energy-efficiency also is a key advantage of the new MOVIGEAR®, SEW’s award-winning mechatronic drive automation solution for demanding conveyor systems. Designed for the food and beverage, logistics and automotive industries, MOVIGEAR combines automation, application and communication technologies into a single compact housing that integrates motor, gear and electronics.

Among the many other new products being introduced by SEW are smaller, more powerful servomotors and a new line of low backlash servo gear units that achieve higher torque ratings and better accuracy at faster speeds. SEW will also showcase a new ASEPTICplus gearmotor that incorporates an IP69K-rated motor for high-pressure, high-temperature washdown environments. The smooth-bodied, hygienic DAS motor is integrally mounted to SEW gear units and features stainless steel components, rugged coatings and seals and a fanless (TENV) cooling system.

Exceptional control for simple machines is now more affordable with the introduction of SEW-EURODRIVE’s MOVITRAC® LTE B, a frequency inverter designed to simplify control of asynchronous motors. Available with either a standard IP20 or rugged IP55/NEMA 12k housing, the new drive, with dynamic braking, better low speed motor control and embedded communications, is an economical solution for a wide range of applications.

SEW-EURODRIVE has been designing and manufacturing motors since it was founded in 1931 and was the first company in the world to manufacture AC motors using die-cast copper technology for better energy efficiency. The company uses a modular approach to product design that allows it to quickly customize a solution for every customer. SEW’s broad offering of modular motor, gear and electronic components provides designers an almost limitless range of speed, torque and control options to precisely match application requirements.

An example of how the unique use of modular components enables SEW to match each customer’s performance requirements is the new DR motor, which will be available in three classes – a standard model and two efficiency levels, including one that meets the requirements of NEMA Premium. Since energy efficiency standards vary by country, the ability to configure a single family of motors for different regulatory environments will simplify machine design and export for original equipment manufacturers.

SEW’s AC gearmotors, servo gearmotors and electronic drives are built to order in local assembly plants in the U.S and around the world, enabling machine builders to rapidly customize equipment to achieve the faster speeds, increased precision and greater reliability customers want today.

Also on display at PACK EXPO 2008 are SEW-EURODRIVE’s award-winning MOVIFIT® decentralized control system, the MOVI-PLC® PLC-on-a-card, a series of powerful drives including MOVITRAC® B, MOVIDRIVE® with Ethernet connectivity and the economical MOVITRAC® LTE B frequency inverter, and the popular MOVIMOT® for drive-based automation.
