LYMAN, S.C. - April 1, 2008 - The SEW-EURODRIVE manufacturing plant in Lyman received the 2007 Top Plant Award this month for its commitment to manufacturing practices that support productivity, empower people and protect the environment.

The award from Plant Engineering Magazine honored the Lyman production facility along with two other companies: Spirax Sarco in Blythewood, S.C., and Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) in Dundee, Mich. The Top Plant winners won praise from the magazine for committing to "environmentally responsible manufacturing," while also enhancing profits.

The Lyman plant more than doubled productivity in the past seven years through innovation and automation, while increasing the number of manufacturing workers by only 6 percent. Fewer than 100 employees made an estimated 300,000 gear sets and housings in 2007.

"We strive for innovation and employee involvement in everything we do," said plant manager Carl Hinze, who accepted the Top Plant award April 1 at the Plant Engineering Manufacturing Summit in Chicago. "Our management team not only wants to minimize costs and maximize operations, we also remain committed to improving our employees' lives - both at work and in the community."
